From consultant to interior designer

Twelve years in consulting, senior management track, solid income and Shivani walked away from it all.

Why would someone leave a successful corporate career to start over in interior design? We sat down with Shivani, founder of Madison Interiors to understand her transition from consultant to founder of a sought-after interior design business.

Redefining Success and Confronting Fears

The biggest barrier wasn't financial - it was internal. Shivani faced the fear of failure and societal judgment that comes with leaving a "safe" career path. The question that haunted her: what will everyone think?

The breakthrough came when she redefined what success actually meant beyond financial security. Instead of external validation driving her decisions, she prioritised creative fulfilment and personal alignment. This mindset shift became the foundation for everything that followed.

Shivani's creative aspirations weren't new - they'd been present since childhood through fashion design dreams as a child to artistic experiments. The turning point came during COVID lockdowns when she took on design work for her home renovation project. What started as a creative outlet away from work, became a necessity for Shivani.

Her consulting background proved unexpectedly valuable. Process management and risk governance skills translated directly into running a design business. The systems-oriented approach she'd developed in corporate consulting became the operational backbone of Madison Interiors.

The Power of Manifestation: Creating Reality from Vision

Manifestation became Shivani's daily practice, not abstract thinking. Getting clear on her desires, challenging limiting beliefs, and connecting emotionally with her goals became non-negotiable routines. Each morning, she visualises her goals and takes concrete steps toward those visions.

This wasn't wishful thinking - it was strategic planning combined with emotional clarity. By actively visualising where she wanted her career to go and taking bold action, she created the momentum needed for transformation.

Shivani's transition reveals an important truth: happiness, not external validation, defines real success. Her design philosophy reflects this, focusing on timelessness, connection to nature, and personally curated aesthetics rather than following trends (though trends certainly have a time and place).

The career change wasn't just about switching industries; it was about aligning her professional life with her authentic self. She discovered that pursuing what energises you isn't selfish - it's strategic.

For anyone contemplating a significant career change, Shivani's journey offers practical insights. Fear of failure is normal, but redefining success on your own terms is liberating. Your existing skills often transfer in unexpected ways, and daily practices like visualisation can create real momentum.
